Anti-corruption operation must continuous, sustainable
THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s crackdown on corrupt practices is indicative of its seriousness to rid the nation of this scourge.
However, the operation must be continuous, sustainable and executed without fear or favour.
Corruption has cost the government and country losses by the billions. Corrupt practices have gone on far too long and it is time for an aggressive onslaught to get rid of this cancer.
Admittedly, it is a gargantuan task that needs intensive, meticulous and thorough investigative efforts.
The net must be thrown wider to ensure those involved are brought to face justice. We constantly hear complaints from all walks of life on the need to “grease” those high in rank to have their matters resolved.
The integrity of people who accept bribes is non-existent. Department heads must act to stop this rot.
The police force, where I served for almost 38 years, has a check-and-balance mechanism in the form of a Discipline and Drug Control System, where supervisors oversee their subordinates in discipline and drug abuse cases.
However, this is ineffective if supervisors have a laissez faire attitude. Things will work out for the better and more effectively if each and everyone is responsible and execute their duty without fear or favour.
The recent arrests of police personnel in Malacca have jolted the police force, and even police retirees.
It is a sad episode and has dented the image of the force as the main law enforcement agency in the country.
The police force should not be unduly dampened by this and must move forward to prove to the rakyat that it is still a force to be reckoned with.
I am sure Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and his top officers will do their best to get the force back on the right track for the good of the force and the country.
The rot must stop. I wish the police force all the very best to — keep the Sang Saka Biru (Blue Perennial) flying high.
