AUSTRALIA WELCOMES ENGAGEMENT WITH MACC

The Australian High Commissioner, Andrew Goledzinowski called on the MACC Chief Commissioner, Dato’ Sri Mohd Shukri Abdull during an official visit to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday to discuss bilateral cooperation and engagement.

Australia and Malaysia have a long history of operational cooperation, and MACC welcomed Australia’s offer to share its experiences and practices of reforming public offices and institutions following misconduct.

Shukri advised the High Commissioner that MACC investigations to date had not revealed any Australian connections with respect to the 1MDB case. The High Commissioner assured MACC that if anything was discovered that indicated possible Australian involvement, the High Commission would be open to receiving a referral from MACC or the Royal Malaysian Police.

Goledzinowski was accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner, Michael Growder, Australian Federal Police Acting Senior Liaison Officer, Sally Macdonald¸ DFAT Assistant Secretary Jeremy Bruer and First Secretary, Jane Bartlett.

The delegation from the Australian High Commission also met with MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Seri Azam Baki; Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Dato’ Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil and Director of Policy, Planning and Research Division, Dato’ Nor Azmi Karim.
