'Don’t hit below belt, coward' - Ali Rustam Phang-ed
Former MACC advisory panel member Robert Phang has reprimanded Umno senator Mohd Ali Rustam for “hitting MACC officers below the belt”.
Phang’s rebuke was in response to Ali who said that disciplinary action must be taken against any MACC officer seen to be allegedly involved in attempts to smear the image of the country’s leaders including that of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
As a former Malacca chief minister and a current senator, Phang said Ali should not have aired his views against the MACC publicly.
“Instead, (he) should interact quietly with the MACC authorities […] what he said has literally, blatantly and clearly hit the MACC officers below the belt,” said Phang in a statement today.
He also urged Ali to stop making accusations against the MACC, especially since he knows how their hands are tied and that they cannot retaliate.
“Shame on you, Mohd Ali Rustam. Please be a gentleman and say sorry to the MACC.
"And a word of reminder – please leave it to the professional authorities to carry out their performance and duties with transparency,” said Phang (photo).
Ali had accused MACC special operations director Bahri Mohd Zin of issuing statements which could “confuse the public”, and “smear the prime minister's image”.
The MACC director had landed in the spotlight after he revealed that the commission would most likely appeal the decision by attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali to clear Najib of any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Phang said Ali was doing nothing but hoping to seek the limelight at the cost of others suffering.
“Repent and apologise as the nation is waiting.
“The nation can only conclude that you are a coward,” he added.
