MACC initiates probe into former 1MDB subsidiary
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has begun investigations into former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd over its investments.
It was alleged in a Wall Street Journal report Friday that some money transferred to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s personal account had come from SRC International, an energy company that was initially controlled by 1MDB but was transferred to the Finance Ministry in 2012.
In a press statement, MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull (pic)said the commission had gone through the issue and found that it was under the MACC’s jurisdiction
“Following a check, it is found that there is basis for the MACC to begin investigations under the MACC Act 2009, and hence, an investigation has since been started.
“In line with legal provisions, the MACC will conduct investigations independently and professionally and comprehensively,” said Shukri.
WSJ and Sarawak Report had published articles Friday claiming that almost US$700mil (RM2.63bil) of 1MDB funds had been transferred into the Prime Minister’s personal accounts.
1MDB, in an immediate response, denied that such payments were ever made, adding that such statements were intended to undermine the company.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the reports amounted to political sabotage, adding that the criminal leaking of documents, doctoring and extortion had taken place to mislead the media and public.http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/07/03/MACC-probes-SRC/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
