MACC Refutes Claims DEIG Probe Not Done
SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today refuted claims that no action was taken by the agency concerning the dubious setting up of the Darul Ehsan Investment Group (DEIG).
Instead, Selangor MACC director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani said the MMEA had taken various proactive measures as soon as the issue was reported by the media.
"The MACC has interviewed several witnesses and seized several relevant documents since Aug 19.
"However, our investigations found no offence under the MACC Act 2009 and hence, the MACC has no plan to take any further action," he said in a statement here today.
Yesterday, a Selangor Barisan Nasional assemblyman claimed that the authority had not taken any action on the dubious setting up of the DEIG despite the many reports and exposures done on the matter.
On the RM2.5 million in tithe donation involving the DEIG, Simi said the investigation on the matter had begun in July and still ongoing.
Various quarters, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, had raised doubts over the setting up of the DEIG and urged for the weaknesses of DEIG be exposed for the sake of the people of Selangor.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, however, reiterated that the existence of the DEIG was known to all state assemblymen since its establishment and there should not be any doubt from any assemblyman because information on the DEIG had been tabled during the State Assembly sitting in August.
