GEORGE TOWN: Eight individuals have been charged in court for giving and receiving bribes so far this year.
Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy director Yusof Samsuddin said these individuals were from the public and private sectors.
He said 27 individuals have been nabbed to date while 204 reports have been lodged over allegations of graft this year.
"We have opened 39 investigation papers so far," he said in a press conference after delivering a briefing on graft to Penang Development Corporation (PDC) vendors, investors and business associates.
Also present was PDC general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar and MACC officer Teh Chong Earn.
Yusof also expressed his happiness over the positive perception the public had for the anti-graft body.
"This is a good sign," he noted.
